SPINNING TIME
Single.
Music, lyrics, and performance by Jordan Rowe. 2023.
ABOUT
“Spinning Time” is Jordan Rowe’s latest single and first music release in over a year and a half, since his 2022 debut EP Glances. The song is a mid-tempo, fun rock track with jangling guitars, a catchy chorus, and a warm, nostalgic tone. It’s tells of a relationship that was once strong, but has since deteriorated. Our narrator puts the person in question in their place, unmasking their facade, bursting their bubble of bravado. In the final lines, they describe leaving this person behind, while keeping the door ajar should they ever reemerge.
LYRICS
You went away far upstate
From the folks, so you could stay up late
Surrounded by laughter from a joke misheard
And I tune out the absurd
There was a word I heard you say
It came to mind just the other day
You don’t remember, you didn’t hear it that way
I let it fade away
I don’t know where it goes
This time we spin ourselves down a rabbit hole
When did things get so hard?
It’s bad out there, but we never got so scarred
I don’t think the world is to blame
All you did was change your name
If we talked, you’d say there’s nothing wrong
I knew you better when we got along
I still know when you’re on
Maybe I’m off, maybe you’re gone
I don’t know where it goes
This time we spin ourselves down a rabbit hole
As years go by at this pace
I’ll be far from this place
Can’t take you with, that’s for you to decide
But if you look, I won’t hide

“A glorious concoction of fuzz, reverb and jangle-pop, that gives this New York based artiste all the credentials to be one of the leaders of a modern pop rock movement...”

“Jordan’s music has always radiated kindness, mining an unabashed (and un-airbrushed) jangle-pop warmth that is reflective of the man but in danger of feeling from another possibly imaginary time...”
